Bruce Sterling was born in 19954 in Brownsville, Texas. He is an American science fiction author, best known for his novels and his seminal work on the Mirrorshades anthology, which defined the cyberpunk genre. His first publication in 1977 was the novel “Involution Ocean”. For several times he was nominated for the Nebula Award and the Hugo Award. He writes Catscan, for the SF Eye. In 2003 he was appointed Professor at the European Graduate School where he is teaching Summer Intensive Courses on media and design.
Among others Bruce Sterling became popular due to his political engagement. In 1992 he published his first non-ficiton work “The Hacker Crackdown”, describing concerned the activities of the US Secret Service against pretended hackers. This book was published free in the Internet. Sterling is one of the leading heads of the Viridian-Design-Movement.
